Formal season is finally here! Formals can be a great time to get dressed up and have a fun night with your sisters, but finding the perfect dress can be exhausting! I've come up with five helpful tips to make sure this year's formal dress is your best yet. Happy Shopping!

1) Know your colors!
Picking what color to wear can be half the battle. If you're stuck here are some suggestions. Brunettes look great in olive greens or pale yellows. If you have a paler complexion then go with a soft pastel like, baby pink or lavender. For blondes, reds and neutrals work great too!
2) Shop around!
The worst thing ever is buying a dress and then seeing something you like better for cheaper than what you spent! Make sure you completely love what you are buying before you hit purchase.
3) Find the deals!
My favorite go-to place to get a formal dress is Rent the Runway. My first time renting a dress from them was for homecoming my senior year of high school and then again for my boyfriend's homecoming. For each event you get the dress for four days and they also send a backup size. Their selection is incredible as well! For just $30, I rented this Lilly Pulitzer shift (pictured above) for my Alpha Phi Spring Formal last year. I ordered a size 4, but they sent a 6 just in case. After your rental is over, you send it back in a bag with a shipping label that they provide. This is the perfect solution for wearing an expensive dress without paying the pricey fee, especially when you know you would only wear it once.
4) Borrow from sisters!
The ultimate way to avoid buying a dress is borrowing one from a sister! Just ask someone to shop their closet or take a look at their Instagram to see any dresses they've worn in the past.
5) Strive for comfort!
Formal is a long night of dancing in heels, so the last thing you want is to be tugging down your short dress. Make sure the dress that you pick will be long enough so that you don't have to keep pulling it down all night. Also, keep in mind that after eating at the event that super tight dress might not be your best idea!
